Tips

• Avoid ambiguity and the use of puzzle words rather try to be as clear as possible and straight to the point.

• Make good use of a proper diction(ie, choice of words) that sounds confident and neither pathetic nor cocky and vain.

• Ensure that your spellings are correct and used with the appropriate grammar.

• In other words write in English and not in slangs. It is a formal letter and therefore should not contain any informal language.

• The advocated fonts to use are usually Times New Roman and Arial.

• Have your friend or family member especially one in an executive position as an employer or staff read the letter to see if they will spot errors, make amends or add extra details.

• Endeavor to add all your contact details to CV or inside the letter when specified.

P.S The Minster of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, has said plans are afoot to make bachelor’s degree the minimum teaching qualification in Nigeria.(Premium Times Big, Feb 19, 2015). Mr. Shekarau said from 1980 the minimum teaching qualification to teach in schools was National Certificate in Education but this could be upped to first degree soon.
